Puttgarden - Rødby
The ferry connection between Rødby on Lolland and Puttgarden on the German island of Fehmarn is one of the most important links between Germany and Denmark.
It forms part of the so-called Vogelfluglinie (Bird Flight Line) and connects motorways A1 (Germany) and E47 (Denmark). The crossing takes around 45 minutes, with ferries running round the clock at regular intervals. This connection is the fastest way from Germany to Denmark.
Rostock - Gedser
Another important ferry connection runs between Gedser on Falster and Rostock in Germany.
This route is also operated by Scandlines and offers an alternative to the Vogelfluglinie. The crossing takes around 2 hours and 15 minutes. The ferry takes both cars and foot passengers. This route is ideal for travellers heading to Denmark from eastern Germany.
Ferries to Bornholm
This route is served by the shipping company Bornholmslinjen. The crossing takes around 3.5 hours. Additional connections run during the summer months.
The main connection to the island. The crossing takes around 1 hour and 20 minutes on the high-speed ferry, or around 2.5 hours on the conventional ferry. Ystad is well connected to Copenhagen via the Øresund Bridge.
This ferry connection is an overnight option with a crossing time of around 5.5 hours. It particularly suits travellers from the greater Copenhagen area who prefer a relaxed overnight crossing.
